My Skincare Routine

Skincare is a huge part of my morning and evening routine, theres something very cathartic about cleansing my face at the start and end of everyday. I've had near enough the same skincare routine since I was 15 - thats 6 years, so I'm pretty set on how effective it is.

Since I was very young my Mum has always taught me how important it is to invest in your skin, and when I look at her it inspires me, the amount of people who think she's at least ten years younger than she actually is, is incredible! You live in the same skin all your life so its worth protecting and caring for as well as you possibly can.
My Mum, look at that glow!
To start off, I have very oily skin so if you have dry or combination skin then this routine probably won't work as well for you.

Some Oily Skin Facts
Despite the shiny t-zone issue, oily skin is actually beneficial as it prevents your skin from getting fine lines and wrinkles as badly as those with dry skin.

Oily skin is a better barrier against sun damage, obviously you still need SPF to give you complete resistance against the sun. Oily skin also requires a lighter weight sunscreen for the face to stop pores from being clogged.

Those with oily skin are more prone to acne and spots, therefore extra attention to skincare is necessary to cleanse pores from dirt and sebum and help prevent acne.

My Skincare Routine
I start my routine by running a sink of hot water, and letting the muslin cloth steep in the water for a few seconds.
Next I place the muslin cloth over my face so the steam opens up my pores.
Then I massage the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish on my face in circular motions for two minutes with the muslin cloth. This cleanser is one of the only ones which really leaves my skin feeling clean and nourished plus it gets off waterproof mascara seriously well.
Next I use the Clean and Clear Sensitive Toner on a cotton pad to remove any excess dirt and oil from my skin. It's a pretty strong toner but it's really great at keeping excess oil at bay.
After the toner I use The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% on my face to help exfoliate any dirt and oil not reached by the cleaner and toner - you'd be surprised how much can still linger. The lactic acid is the most recent addition to my skincare routine but I love how smooth it makes my skin feel, it works by peeling away any excess skin texture to give a super smooth and clean finish.
Finally I apply the L'Oreal Hydra Genius Moisturiser to my face and neck to add the moisture back into my skin. I used to use the Liz Earle moisturiser, but I tried this one on a whim when I was broke and love how hydrating it is without leaving my skin feeling greasy and its a fraction of the price of Liz Earle - result!
If it's been a long day at the library or work, which it almost always has been now I'm in my final year at Uni, I love using Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion on a cotton pad to cool down and sooth my tired eyes. My eyesight is particularly bad so I find this step really helps to refresh them after a day straining them over books and academic jargon.
One a week I use the Glam Glow Supermud Mask, to help tackle any spots and extra oils. I leave it on for around 20 minutes then wash away with warm water, and finish with my full skin care routine. Although the Glam Glow masks are expensive they really are the best I've ever tried and trust me I've tried a LOT.
While I was living in London and whenever I go on holiday my skin can get irritated and dry so I use the Glam Glow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment, to add moisture back into my skin. If my skin is particularly dehydrated or damaged I leave the treatment on overnight to really sink into the skin and rehydrate it.

Finally, the main part of my skincare routine I need to focus on is drinking enough water! I try to have a cup of hot lemon water each morning and night and also to drink several glasses a day but I often forget with my hectic schedule.
Water is the easiest way to clean and clear skin.
