Met Gala - WOWS and OH GOD NO'S

The Met Gala is the highlight of the fashion calendar for myself and I'm sure a LOT of other people agree. This years theme was in honour of Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, who is known for bright bold colours and oriental silhouettes. Seeing how designers and fashions elite interpret the theme is breathtaking this year being no exception. Here are my top picks as well as some people who I think just missed the mark...

Plus an interesting fact I learnt while interning is that it can cost £15,000 upwards for a designer to dress one of the names of the moment for the MET, think Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Selena Gomez to name a few.

WOW

Zendaya in Dolce and Gabbana

I swear Zendaya never gets it wrong, apart from being completely stunning she always wears the most breathtaking designs. Using Rei's signature bright red to compliment both the style of Dolce and Gabbana and Comme des Garçons, she nails the theme while still keeping the elegance and beauty the Met ball is renowned for.

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger

I adored this gown on Gigi, a classic ball gown silhouette merged with the origami-esque pleats of a more asian style this gown screamed MET GALA 2017. I also love how Gigi has an input in the design process, stating how she wanted to choose textures which evoked that of a feminine warrior.

Kendall Jenner in La Perla Couture

The design process behind this dress alone is fascinating, made of only mesh, beads and sequins and crafted in FIVE different countries this dress deserved to steal the show. As the face of La Perla there was no body better than Kendall and her legs for days to wear the creation as it perfectly stuck to the rule breaking aspect of the Rei Kawakubo theme.

Lily Collins in Giambattista Valli

Lily Collins ALWAYS nails the Met Gala themes and this year was no exception, mimicking the blunt, dark bob that Rei herself is so renowned for and the colour blocking on the dress perfectly echoed the theme. A classic style and silhouette adapted to the avant garde theme - perfectly embodies the Met gala spirit.

Zoe Kravitz in Oscar de la Renta

Cheekbones and a gown to die for, Zoe Kravitz use of real dyed roses is simply breathtaking. Using the signature oriental silhouette of Rei she perfects nails two aspects of the theme while modernizing them and giving them an angelic almost princess like charm in true Oscar De La Renta style.

Rihanna in Comme des Garçons

I mean when your wearing the label the event is in honour of you cant really go wrong... Rihanna is the reigning queen of nailing the Met Gala themes, and this certainly did that. The dress breaks all the rules from the shape to the textures, colours and print - while its not the most beautiful and elegant dress it's everything the Met Gala stands for outrageous and avant garde - two things both Rihanna and Comme des Garçons are both very well known for, making them the perfect pairing.

OH GOD NO

Every year there are a few people who just don't embrace the theme or wear something bland that could be worn to any red carpet event. These are the people who didn't blow my socks off.

Kylie Jenner in Versace

I feel like the 'nearly naked' style of dress has just been so overdone and worn at any standard red carpet event, plus this dress looked so similar to Beyoncè's last year, and not even too dis-similar to Kylie's own 2016 Met dress. I'm also not really seeing the theme in this look at all?

Kim Kardashian in Vivienne Westwood

This dress was just far too simple for me, nothing particularly interesting or stand out just a nice white dress. Although Kim's signature style is very basic and simplistic that wasn't the theme of the Met ball.

Madonna in Moschino

Honestly I found this particular look to just look tacky, there wasn't anything high fashion or particularly interesting or groundbreaking about it.
